“Committed to sustaining the environment and passing the benefits onto our residents, Norman Towers is a green building that offers a quiet and comfortable environment unlike all others.”
Every feature from our tight fitting windows to our quiet climate control system has been designed to provide a wonderful place to live while also saving energy and money.
Windows – Our ultra-tight fitting, low draft windows keep the cold of the winter and the heat of summer out while also helping to reduce the amount of noise that comes from the street. Low emissivity (low-e) window glazing helps control solar heat gain and loss to add to the energy savings.
Central Air and Heating – Our advanced climate control system is whisper quiet and energy efficient. In this building, air conditioning is finally an affordable feature.
Lighting – Energy Star lighting fixtures were installed throughout the building and in every room of every apartment. This will help lower electric bills for every resident.
Energy Star Appliances – Appliances account for a significant portion of an average household’s energy use. Our comprehensive package of Energy Star approved refrigerators and dishwashers will help residents save a significant amount on their electric bills as compared with non-Energy Star appliances.
Insulated Concrete Forms – Insulated concrete form (ICF) construction used at all exterior walls helps provide a much tighter wall enclosure that leads to much higher energy efficiency, a quieter interior, and also provides a very strong structure that can withstand natural disasters. Norman Towers is the single largest development in the northeast USA to utilize this system.
Pre-stressed Hollow Core Plank – Dense, concrete plank floor construction helps achieve a quiet sound barrier between apartments.
Solar Panels – The solar photovoltaic electricity system on the roofs of the two towers assist in producing energy on site (which lowers the buildings’ carbon footprint and makes the neighborhood air that much cleaner) via the lowered amount of fossil fuels needing to be consumed for the buildings to operate.
Cogeneration System – The highly efficient gas fired cogeneration system installed within the building serves two purposes. It produces domestic hot water and electricity which results in a significant reduction in the building’s carbon footprint. In addition, the system automatically serves as a backup generator when there is an electrical utility blackout in the area. This system will allow for normal operation of the hallway/stairwell lighting, fire alarm system, water booster pump, and the hot water circulating pumps during utility outages.
Green Roofs and Terraces – Beautifully custom designed roof gardens with pavers also serve to help the environment by retaining rain water on-site for irrigation and also lowering the level of heat at the roof during the summer months.
